Diet metabolism

Published by sum under Uncategorized

Obesity seems to be a curse. Yet the worst part is not the obesity but the feverishness with which people attempt to lose their extra fat. People adopt certain extreme measures to cut down the body mass. One needs to understand the body, its functioning and diet accordingly. One of the commonly misunderstood advices is that you need to eat fewer calories than how much you burn. So people begin to starve themselves to lose weight and what logic does the ‘starvation mode” provide?

By not taking in sufficient calories in a day your metabolism will slow down and will store what you eat as fat. Or

When you consume very little calories for too long, and you go back to eating ‘normally’ you will store more fat than before.

Hence you should starve yourself. But this is utterly absurd way of thinking. Let me make myself clearer.

Firstly , I found no research available to support the above statement of how consumption of calories affect the metabolism.

Secondly; It is your body weight that mainly affects your metabolism. The quantity of food you consume per day has a very little to do with your metabolic rate and does not effect greatly on your weight loss or gain.

However if you do lose your muscle mass in your diet regime then your metabolism will reduce. This doesn’t mean that you will store more fat in your body each time you eat. Now you merely need to eat less to sustain your new lighter bodyweight.

Thirdly : People say “When you get back to eating ‘normal’ it will bounce back and stock up more fat”. I would like to know what is eating normal mean? Suppose for instance you weigh 200 pounds and you eat 3500 calories per day…is this eating normal?

And now you reduce your eating to 2000 calorie per day for 10 weeks, and weigh 180 pounds (a good minus of 20 pounds! Yay!)

And your returning to normal eating that is 3500 calories per day, would mean you will gain extra body mass and weigh 200 pounds again.

This is not some boomerang. Your body is not suddenly producing extra fat or storing it. it is just the amount of calories that you eat to keep you at that weight.

The phrase ‘starvation mode’ I find is not a scientific term, it is a hype fashioned by the diet and fitness industry. Such a term does not exist within the terminology of nutrition or human physiology research. However this leads to a lot of misconception among the youth that starving yourself is the only way to lose weight.

The new in thing and what most nutritionist suggests is fasting, short term fasting. This is a simple way to reduce your food intake without affecting your metabolism. Research shows that fasting has some other useful benefits too. So you can reduce your calorie intake for few days and get back to your usual diet. This in no way has any effect over your metabolism. Also with thus you can eat your hearts content, whenever you like without any regret (of course not at the time when you are fasting!) so enjoy your food and lose weight as well. No more regrets and misgiving!

Pilates exercise instructions

Published by sum under Uncategorized

The world today thanks Joseph Hubert Pilates for having gifted us with Pilates, the new fitness regime. Pilates believed that modern lifestyle affected the health and living of all and hence during the First World War he introduced a new system of rehabilitation programme for war veterans.  He came up with “Pilate’s principles” for proper conditioning of the body. Most of the people think Pilate is all about gymnastics, holding body in different poses; and working out. However Pilate is much more than this. The benefits from the regular Pilate regime make it more than mere gymnastics or exercise.

According to Joseph Pilates the exercises have to be holistic, it is the combination of body and the mind. They coexist in Pilate. This is what makes it different from any aerobics class or dance movements. Its not mere body movements, it has to synchronies with the breath and the mind. You will have pay attention to the body such that you can learn to activate your muscles and then control them. Thus one needs to be mindful while practicing Pilate. You cannot listen to music and workout as you do in gym. However do not mistake term mindfulness to pilate being a “Thinking Person’s Exercise”.

What are your benefits?

Since Pilate requires deep concentration, it leads to a much focused mind. The constant chatter of the mind comes to a stop as the attention of the mind is diverted to the exercise and the breathing of the body. This leads to relaxed mind.  Thoughts like “Is the front door of my house locked?” “Will I be fired today? “ I think my ass looks huge in these tracks. Dammit. I should have worn the other pair” will not bother you. You will stay focused with your body and mind.

Most people have lost the ability to relax their minds, even for a few seconds .Even when they are sleeping, the stresses of the day, week or year seep through causing them to sleep restlessly, toss and turn, have nightmares, and wake up feeling more tired than they did when they went to bed! This in turn has a knock-on effect the following day as more and more stress is piled upon them.

With modern lifestyle setting in people are unable to relax completely. Even in sleep, they wake up with nightmares. Throughout the night you toss and turn, try to put yourself to sleep with creepy novels or scary movies and you end up waking more tired and exhausted. Thus your body failing to get enough sleep , stresses itself more and more making it susceptible to diseases. But I have noticed that my clients sleep well after their pilate classes and wake up feeling energized and rejuvenated. Thus pilate is not exercise for the body alone but is also good for the relaxation of the mind. The excessive emotional garbage that we hang around with gets released with this. Thus it is even a great stress buster.

Even something like half an hour practice of pilate can show some remarkable changes in your body. As I still research and attempt to find out more benefits of this technique, I am indebted to that great personality who invented this unique and simple way of maintaining harmony in the body.

Home fitness equipment

Published by sum under Uncategorized

Healthy mind in a healthy body is what everyone wishes to possess. One of the many ways of staying fit is by working out in the gym. Working out is no doubt fun, but how are we to get ourselves to gym? It becomes another huge task to get ourselves go there and eventually resignation and acceptance of the extra body fat which now you begin to love as your own child. Moreover after going to gym you simply will not find time to shower and then get back to work. Sigh! If only you had home fitness equipment at your disposal! Yes! That is your answer. Your own gym at your place!

Now you may wonder,”Nah that’s not possible. These equipments take up too much place and it’s too cumbersome having one around. Am just a middle class man who cannot dream of this luxury”. Gone are those days when these home equipments were the pride of the elite. You can buy one and own one too.  You have various choices available such that they even fit in your two bedrooms flat.

Imagine with a gym in your house, you will be able to work out everyday with no excuse whatsoever for not going to the gym. It even saves your time and you can work out in peace without having to endure your neighbor chattering away about how his boss sucks. At home you will not have to listen to the maddening music played by some idiot or watch some heart wrenching soap opera. You can choose the music of your choice, your favorite talk shows, television shows while you workout. You are the king! Working out from the comfort of your house allows you to be in control of your environment, where you can listen to your choice of music or your favorite television show without having to negotiate or worry about offending the person at the neighboring treadmill. So all your clever excuses for not working out will be shot down at one go ( unless you smart enough to make up some innovative ones!) Just get someone to wake up early morning or just throw a frying pan at you for being such a lazybones!( am sure you will find some willing volunteers for the latter option) Ultimately, this will result in you working out more often and will help to make the attainment of your fitness goals much easier.

All said and done where on earth are you gonna keep this humongous, beastly size machines which seem to be capable of occupying your entire living room. However you can easily find some compact machine that will suit your liking. They have been manufactured in such that they can be stored well, folded up or even rolled away. Am sure you can find square feet easily to place your new home equipment kit.

What will you need in your gym? In market you will find whole range of choices which can often lead to confusion. Some of the popular choices are: elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, treadmills, stair climbers, ab and rowing machines. You can decide what you want you buy depending on what equipments you mostly use. Make the most of your gym, stay fit, be fit!

Fitness action

Published by sum under Uncategorized

A general good health arises from paying careful attention to our nutritional needs and what our body requires. When we consider our dietary requirements, we know the type of foods that would agree with our bodies and eat accordingly. For instance, we maintain the levels of vitamins and minerals in our body by consuming organic, healthy foods and avoiding those foods that are rich in grease and fat and thus are unhealthy. Physical fitness is thus extremely crucial when it comes to protecting our bodies and imparting immunity from a host of illnesses and diseases. Good nutritious food results in overall good health that keeps our bodies working immaculately even into the future.

A fitness routine that agrees with you has to be carefully coordinated with your way of life and health. If your present situation is more or less a sedentary one then undertake the process gradually – fit in a small quantity of exercise into your every day agenda and growing it as your vigor and habituation increase. Walking is a great way to begin and is a good exercise routine for first timers. You can start off with short distances but can increase it gradually as you increase in strength.

For supplementary high intensity cardiovascular health exercises, Tae-Bo, kickboxing, dance workouts, and aerobic practice make the blood pump in and out of your heart and also burns off fat and helps in building muscle. By joining local gyms, you’ll find that you have found many other people with similar fitness goals as yours and working out will thus become a more pleasurable experience.

Along with some cardiovascular exercises, a suitable fitness schedule should also comprise training with weights that serves to increase the metabolic rate and build muscle. On no account must you embark on weight training without a concrete idea of the appropriate procedure; if you are a novice then you should train under an expert trainer who can tutor you on the procedure, practice and pacing: if you try to do it on your own and get an injury an unnecessary delay will simply serve to take a longer time before you can reach your fitness goals.

Lastly, crucial to your fitness plans are some simple stretching exercises – for instance Pilates or yoga – that you must incorporate into your fitness schedule. Such programs make you more flexible and your body’s innermost recesses become stronger – giving you strong abdominals and back.

Many people prefer the privacy and comfort of their own homes to pursue their fitness targets rather than the gym. Therefore fitness videos flood the market every season to feed into this popular craze.

A fitness schedule is indispensable for the general well being of your body. But the dedication to integrating such fitness into your every day life will repay you with vigor and verve all through your life.
